What is a CSA? CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. It's designed to create a partnership between the local farmer and consumer. The consumer, known as the shareholder, purchases a share during the farm's off season from the farmer in exchange for fresh produce during the growing season.
What is a Berry Patch Farms CSA? First and foremost we are a Certified Organic farm which means our produce is grown without synthetic pesticides, growth hormones, antibiotics nor GMOs. The produce you will receive each week is picked at its peak freshness. You will receive a weekly e-newsletter that describes what will be in your share that week as well as helpful cooking tips. Additionally, you as a shareholder will
- be invited to participate in social activities throughout the growing season
- be given vouchers to pick strawberries and raspberries in September
- be given the opportunity to pick two bouquets of flowers
- be given two admission tickets to our “Taste of Pumpkin” festival in October.
What are the risks? Each shareholder assumes the same risks as does the farmer: drought, crop failure, insect infestations, hail storms......which could lead to lower crop yields which would be reflected in the share.
Policies: You will decide what pick up point best suits your needs and should you find that you will need to make a change your permanent pickup point; you will be able to do so up until the third week of delivery. The pickup times listed are fixed unless arrangements are made twenty-four hours ahead. If you are unable to make your pick up day please make arrangements with others to pick up for you.
If this is your first time with us, we ask that you come and visit the farm and talk with Claudia, Anna or Tim first, before enrolling in the program, for we want to be sure that a CSA share is right for you. This can be done on Saturdays from 10-2pm.
